The 2019/20 Presentation Ceremony and Graduation Celebration Dinner of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarships was held on 4 July to welcome the new batch of 42 undergraduate scholars and 6 graduate scholars, and congratulate the 31 scholar graduates as they embarked on a new chapter in life.

The event was officiated by Club Chairman Dr Anthony W K Chow, who was joined by keynote speaker, Founder of Esperanza The Hon John Tsang Chun-wah, the Club’s Stewards Mr Philip N L Chen, Dr Eric Li Ka Cheung, Mrs Margaret Leung, Mr Silas S S Yang, Mr Richard Tang Yat Sun, Chief Executive Officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges and representatives from the participating tertiary institutions.

Dr Chow said JC Scholars demonstrated their commitment to academic excellence and applied their knowledge and skills for the benefit of others over the past 20 years. “Talent exists in every part of our community. So too does the desire to contribute and give back.” He said. “So it is only right and proper that we should support the full diversity of learning needs so that all students can achieve their potential and give their best.”

Mr Tsang encouraged the audience to be prepared for the “fourth industrial revolution” initiated by technological advancement, as it has brought massive upheavals and drastic changes to the way people lived, learned and worked. “We are confronting the largest transformation of our civilisation. Even the meaning of being human will be questioned. Let us prepare our young generation properly to meet the challenges of the 21st Century,” he said.
