August High Table Dinner – Celebrating Compassionate Leadership in the Scholar Community

Our High Table Dinner rolls out a special edition in August to feature JC Scholars who turned their passion for helping the needy into real actions with impact.

Ms Zelia Tan (2016/17), graduated from the Academy for Performing Arts as a dance major, channeled her expertise into inSIGHT and empowered visually impaired youths via dance workshops co-created with other JC Scholars.

Also having a heart for youth was Mr Ivan Chu (2013/14), who partnered with another JC Scholar Ms Amy Chan (2014/15) to launch social enterprise DoEd and helped secondary school students realise their potential through experimental learning.

On the other hand, Ms Vanessa Poon (2014/15) and Mr Kelvin Ho (2014/15) teamed up with 11 other JC Scholars in a service trip to Hunan this April organised by the Jockey Club Scholars Alumni Association. They shared their experience putting together self-curated education programmes and aroused concerns on the needs of the left behind children in rural China.
Recipient of the Distinguished Community Service Award 2018 by the Law Society of Hong Kong, Ms Winnie Wat (2010/11), sets an excellent example of how professionals can make a difference. She shared inspiring tips on how to live a meaningful life balancing pro bono work, social services and career development.

Discussion that night flourished as scholars with common interest explored social needs in depth and a few teacher fellows from InnoPower@JC shed insights on innovative solutions. This special event has inevitably aspired JC Scholars to take tangible steps to become leaders with compassion.
